Right now, home prices are much higher in these states than they would be if taxes weren’t so high. This is bad news for people trying to buy homes and raise a family (like most Americans).
What’s the best state to purchase a house?
Buying a home is one of the biggest financial decisions you can make. There are many factors to consider when deciding where to buy, including what kind of lifestyle you want and how much house you can afford. The “why am i not excited about buying a house” is an article that talks about the different reasons why people are not excited about buying a house in certain states.
Divorce. Having a child. Getting hitched. According to studies, none of these are as stressful as relocating.
The house, according to psychoanalyst Ronnie Greenberg, is “a network of protection.” A familiar environment, a roof over your head, and a payment system that you understand (even if it’s a hardship). Moving is a plunge into the unknown, regardless of how much you despise your current apartment or how much you like your new one. If that relocation also entails purchasing, you’ll be dealing with a significant financial commitment to add to the mix of emotions you’re experiencing.
A new house, however, is also about your surroundings and the people with whom you finish the process. As a result, certain areas are more stressful than others when it comes to purchasing a property. HouseFresh uses the TensiStrength tool to measure the stress levels of property-themed tweets from every city in the United States for our latest research.
Here’s a list of the most difficult cities to relocate to in each state. The percentage represents the number of tweets about the relocation that included stress-related symptoms.

Methodology
Using the Twitter API, we created a list of phrases relevant to moving homes and retrieved tweets that included these terms. We identified the city, state, and nation based on user location, excluding places outside of the United States. We then utilized TensiStrength, a language analysis tool, to determine if a tweet was stressed or not.
We used the following terms:
- House sale, house bid, house negotiation, first-time buyer, house contract, property lawyer, property solicitor, purchasing house, purchased house, relocation, relocated, house budget, moving
To produce an overall rating, we analyzed the percentage of worried tweets in each city and state and revealed the top 10 most and least stressful. Because no city had adequate data to extrapolate, Wyoming was left out of the’most stressful city in each state’ findings.
The information was gathered in July, August, and September of 2021.

How to Move Without Being Stressed
It’s possible that tweeting about your home-moving concerns isn’t the best option. Get out of the home instead of staring at your phone screen. Take a stroll in the park. Make a new acquaintance who will listen to your concerns. Take a swim or go for a bike ride. It will maintain your body in shape for movement and may even relieve tension.
Your ultimate aim, like other difficult life events like divorce and child-rearing, is happiness. And the good news is that after you’ve settled in, the correct move may do wonders for your mental health.
Unfortunately, more than half of us rank relocating as an eight or above on a scale of one to ten. And 39% of first-time buyers say the stress of the process made them sick. As a result, it’s critical to start protecting your mental health as soon as you start looking for a new house.
